Where I live in Northern California, we call it “going over the hill”—that stretch along Highway 17 that takes you from Silicon Valley over to the coast. About 45 minutes, give or take. And for me, that drive became routine. Three to four days a week, I was heading over the hill to Santa Cruz, Capitola, and Pleasure Point—sometimes just to sit by the water, sometimes to watch the surfers, and sometimes just to reset. And then there was Mavericks, where the energy shifts completely—raw, powerful, and a little humbling. Long before that, growing up just outside of San Diego, beach culture was already part of how I saw style, color, and self-expression.
